    Betcha can't do this!

    This gall's got it licked.

The latest graphite work off the drawing board depicts a bovine domestic scene…..which, according to my printer, is the ‘in thing’ at present.

Sized at 25cmx38cm I used Wolff graphite on Fabriano 5 hot press watercolour paper.

    Rub noses.

The latest graphite project off the line. As usual this was executed using Wolff graphite pencil’s on a Fabriano hot press watercolour paper and this time I allowed a little of the papers texture to show in order to get a ‘softer’ rendering. Finished size 45x25cm.

    Zee, Zee for you

My latest graphite project to date. Very pleased with this as I feel I am really mastering the medium….its all about painstaking patients…..and lots of it.

    Owl in graphite

    Here's looking at you

The owl was sourced from photographic images but the background I made up as I went along, working from left to right with lots of layering and blending….many, many hours of work but I am quite pleased with the result. I feel I’m beginning to get the hang of this graphite medium.

  • Chinstrap’s and Humbolt’s

    Penguins in pencil

This was a relatively quick graphite project which concentrated on the main characters (Chinstrap penguins) and kept the background to a bare minimum. The following study of Humbolt penguins was altogether different with the animals depicted in movement. The ‘water’ was portrayed using a combination of graphite powder and bluetak.

Elephant head in graphiteThis was a further experiment with graphite on a largish scale. It took a while and I learnt a thing or three so it was a worthwhile project.

  • Graphite bust

    Graphite trial

An early attempt at using graphite and carbon.

I began to gain an interest in monochrome artwork a shortwhile ago and have been experimenting with Scratchboard art and graphite work. This example is an early attempt at using graphite and carbon together on one image. Useing graphite powder and a piece of bluetak to create the faux frame I then drew the bust useing a range of Wolff graphite pencils fron HB to 8B before finally working the background with carbon. As the carbon has flat molocules which do not reflect light the dense matt

  • KLWIN Calendar

Fighting for democracy in West Norfolk

The KLWIN (anti incinerator group) 2012 Calendar is now available at £5 each. The calendar has been fully illustrated by yours truly with 13 cartoons selected from a possible 25, depicting our battle with the democratically challenged Norfolk County Council and other agencies who would foster a monstrous mass burn incinerator on us.

With a judicial review looming in early December it is vital that we harvest much needed fighting funds and the calendar is one of many fundraising ideas along with a pretty spectacularly prized raffle and auctions etc.

At £5 the calendar is excellent value and comes in A4 size on high quality glossy paper featuring 13 unique ‘Castletoons‘ that takes a satirical look at the skulduggery and flawed science behind Norfolk County Council’s insistence on placing a wholly inappropriate incinerator in an equally inappropriate location…..despite 65,000 people (93%) saying NO!

The calendar will be available around the town including the Lynn News offices in Purfleet street and on E-BAY

    The Moot

    A scene from LOTR

I have always been inspired by LOTR and have illustrated scenes from the book many, many times. This is one of several that featured Treebeard and I began it whilst in hospital recovering from an illness about 20 years ago.

It began life as a pen & ink drawing and it was several years later that I decided to add a bit of colour. I still have the original but my youngest son has put a claim on it for when he gets his new house.
